IT ALL STARTS WITH WATER

In drought stricken regions like Samburu, access to clean water impacts every aspect of life from community health to education, women’s rights, economic opportunity, and agriculture. This year, join the TSP team as we celebrate The Ripple Effect clean water has on the lives of women and girls in Samburu, and the life changing programs that are possible as a result.

HEALTH

Access to clean water reduces the spread of diseases, decreases rates of diarrhea, and improves community health. We build on this foundation by coordinating hygiene and sanitation workshops, building hand washing stations, installing pit latrines, and facilitating menstrual hygiene programs.

EMPOWERMENT

Eliminating a long walk for water gives women the gift of time. Time for income generation, education, and ultimately a path out of poverty. Our Samburu Sister’s workshops help women utilize this newfound time to learn about their rights under the Kenyan law, the risks of FGM, and more.

EDUCATION

Access to clean water doubles the number of girls in the classroom, improves students' grades, and helps teachers. To further this impact, TSP builds new classrooms and dormitories, funds school supplies, facilitates mentorship programs, and provides scholarships for girls in need.

GROWTH

With clean water, agricultural growth becomes possible for this traditionally pastoralist community. From sack gardens to school gardens, The Samburu Project works with local partners to help expand agricultural opportunity, improving both nutrition and income generation.
